It would seem likely that I am making apple sauce this fall (the solid mass of white is a Wolf River apple!)
A good year for apples, this is one of the crab-apples
Looking back up at the Wolf River. Spring was in a bit of a hurry this year, usually the big Spirea hasn’t leafed out while the King Alfred Daffodils are still going, a bit of a clash of yellows there…
That crab-apple again and a window.
East lawn: Redbuds, Saucer Magnolia, Daffodils, and tulips
Beautiful~
Thanks! Now if it would just rain….
You have a Wolf River! Wow. They are rare apples here in my neck of the woods. We have two that are as tall as our very tall house and old — well over a hundred years old. A glorious sight when blooming.
Are WR apple trees easily available where you are?
The original WR dates back to Wolf River, Wisconsin, circa 1870, but it was brought there from Quebec by a Canadian farmer who moved to the area.
I don’t think they are common here at all. My mother got it because in her opinion (and mine) it is one of the best pie/sauce apples out there. I think she probably came across them up in Vermont.
Sadly, it isn’t a ‘commercial’ apple, so it is rare.
We got it from Miller’s (now Stark Brothers) nursery.
