Probably both Morris Smith and his daughter, Carlotta, were in New Orleans. Morris had business interests in the city and continued to visit there until he retired. Both Carlotta and Fannie spent a great deal of time in New Orleans; Helen and her family never did as far as I can tell.
What a wonderfully illustrated document! I was just reading one of Carlotta’s books, The Homemaker: Her Science, with a Treatise on Home Etiquette (P. F. Collier & Son, 1905). She was promoting the French breakfast of coffee and a little something over the meat-and-potatoes American breakfast of the time. Perhaps she gathered her preference in New Orleans.
Lisa,
I wouldn’t be surprised if she had. From what I can tell, after Julie’s mother died, and especially after Julie herself died, Carlotta spent quite a bit of time in New Orleans in the 1880’s and 1890’s.
