(Not my photo) He was a perfect gentleman the other day with a whole group of little kids who had come specially to give Robbie!!! a carrot. There were five of them, all slightly intimidate by his size; but they enjoyed themselves I think. Mercifully, he has decided that daylilies just don’t taste good.
The elder statesman now; he brings a smile to my face. Would that we could do as well for all the pets and children in our care.
He’s doing pretty well this summer!
Horses amaze me! They are so large and muscular so I am intimidated by them, too!
I think it all depends on whether one grows up with them or not…even if one has, there are definitely intimidating horses.
Robin is not exactly small either, a solid 16 hands (5’3″) to the top of his withers. And, even at 28, he is more than capable of a good turn of speed. But he does like people!
I haven’t spent enough time around one horse to get to know their personalities so that probably would be a good step- to get to know their individual personalities !
They do have personalities; the problem for us as humans is that horses really only pick up on our body language and tone of voice. They learn routines more easily than words as well. Since we tend to rely on words and hand gestures (which horses don’t have!), things can get awkward. You can’t lie to a horse, or more to the point you can…but only if you can control your entire body language.
